§ 4-17. Reporting of found animals.

  • (a)

    Any person who finds and harbors an animal without knowing the identity of its owner shall notify the City of Jackson Police Department and furnish a description of the animal within two (2) business days of finding the animal.

    (b)

    Violation of this section is a civil infraction punishable by a fine of not more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) plus all costs of the action.

    (c)

    If the owner of the animal has not claimed it within ten (10) business days after the animal was reported found to the director of police and fire services, the finder may adopt the animal in accordance with applicable laws.
