§ 17-184. Agreement to discontinue action to abate for motor vehicles.

  • (a)

    If the owner who is the focus of an action to abate a nuisance under this section relating to a motor vehicle, makes an offer of payment as a settlement or compromise and for the payment of costs and related expenses of keeping the property (including but not limited to, reasonable costs of any needed towing, transportation and/or storage of a motor vehicle, as well as any attorney's fees associated with the preparation and/or commencement of a nuisance abatement action), the Jackson Police Department, may accept such payment from said owner, and the city shall then discontinue any nuisance abatement action and return said motor vehicle to said owner. The minimum amount that may be acceptable under this section shall be six hundred fifty dollars ($650.00).

    (b)

    Upon settlement or compromise of the claim, the chief of police or his designee shall immediately forward to the city manager a report of the settlement, including all such information as the city manager may require.
